The Coalcracker Quilt uses loose-fill synthetic insulation instead of the sheet insulation in most sleeping bags — insulation that shifts and conforms to your body instead of staying pinned flat, and keeps working even when it's wet. At 5 lbs and 86" x 56" open, it covers most anyone through a cold night.

Snaps and a drawstring close the bottom into a foot box, so it stays wrapped around you instead of sliding open. The logic behind a quilt over a bag: you're already resting on your ground insulation, so the bag insulation you're lying on is doing nothing — a quilt carries less weight for the same result.
