The Supervisor Atlantic Salmon Fly is one of New England's great smelt streamers, dressed in its classic colors: a pale blue wing under a green topping with peacock herl, a silver tinsel body, white belly, and a red throat tag. Tied in the 1920s by a Maine game warden—hence the name—it remains one of the most elegant baitfish imitations in the streamer canon.
The blue-green-silver palette is finger smelt to the letter, which is why the Supervisor produces wherever smelt and salmon share water: Atlantic salmon rivers, landlocked lakes, and coastal estuaries. It swims with the long, graceful action of a traditional featherwing and earns its strikes by looking like food rather than demanding attention.
Best for:
- Atlantic and landlocked salmon on smelt-driven waters
- Clear to lightly stained rivers, lakes, and estuaries
- Swinging runs or trolling open water
📌 Pro Tip: Fish the Supervisor when the water is clear and the light is high—its translucent blue-silver tones are at their most convincing under conditions that expose flashier streamers as fakes.
