The Skykomish Sunrise wears the colors of its namesake—a dawn sky over a Washington steelhead river. Mixed red and yellow hackle flares over a flame-red chenille body ribbed with silver, with a matching red-and-yellow tail: one of the most celebrated color combinations in steelhead history, tied originally for the Skykomish's winter fish.
This is a winter fly at heart: big color for big water, designed to reach fish holding deep in cold, green flows. The mixed-hackle collar pulses on the swing, blending its two hot tones into the orange glow that steelhead respond to most reliably when rivers run full.
Best for:
- Winter steelhead in full, green-tinted rivers
- Classic swings with sink-tip lines
- Washington and West Coast steelhead traditions
📌 Pro Tip: Fish it slow and deep in winter—cast square, mend big, and let it sink before the swing begins; winter fish rarely move far, and the Sunrise's glow does its best work right at their level.
