The Red Quill is a Catskill cornerstone: a stripped quill body in reddish brown, dun hackle, and a wood-duck wing. The bare quill creates the segmented, translucent look of a real mayfly abdomen—detail-level realism from a fly that predates the term.

It matches the male Hendrickson and other rusty spring duns, earning its keep in April and May when the season's first serious mayfly hatches bring the better fish up.
