The McGinty is the bee of the fly box and has been since 1883: alternating yellow-and-black chenille bands, white wings, brown hackle, and a red tail flash. Bees and yellowjackets end up on the water all summer, and fish eat them with a confidence that surprises anglers who've never tried the imitation.
It fishes both ways—dry on the surface for trout and panfish, or swung wet where a drowned bee is an easier meal than a floating one.
Best for:
- Summer bee and wasp season
- Banks under flowering cover
- Trout and panfish alike
📌 Pro Tip: If the dry drift goes untouched, let it sink and swing at the end—drowned bees outnumber floating ones, and fish know it.
