The Gotcha is the most famous bonefish fly in the Bahamas, in its original sand-and-pearl dress. A pearlescent body, pale tan craft-fur wing flecked with pink flash, and metallic eyes that flip the fly hook-up and carry it to the bottom at the unhurried sink rate shallow flats demand.
The Gotcha succeeds by looking like everything a bonefish eats and nothing it fears: shrimp-translucent, sand-colored, sparse. Born on the flats of Andros, it has become the default first cast across the Caribbean and beyond—if you carry one bonefish pattern, this is the one, and it takes permit and redfish as a bonus.
Best for:
- Sight-fishing bonefish on sand and light-bottom flats
- Clear, shallow water and sunny skies
- The default first fly on any new flat
📌 Pro Tip: Lead the fish, let the fly land soft and settle, then move it in short six-inch strips with full stops—the Gotcha is built to imitate a shrimp hopping for cover, and the eat almost always comes on the stop.
