The Black Chironomid imitates the midge pupa that stillwater trout feed on more than any other food source: a slim black body, fine rib, and a contrasting breather to suggest the gills of an ascending pupa. Lakes live and die on chironomid fishing, and black is the staple color.

Midge pupae hang motionless in the water column before emerging; this imitation is built to be fished the same way—still, deep, and patient.
