The Peacock Carey Special is a soft-hackle wet fly built on an iridescent peacock-herl body with a long pheasant-rump collar. The rump fibers breathe and pulse on the swing, imitating an emerging dragonfly nymph, caddis, or drowned insect with constant motion.
A Pacific Northwest stillwater classic, the Carey reads as a swimming nymph and produces on a slow retrieve or a wet-fly swing.
Best for:
- Stillwater dragonfly-nymph fishing
- Slow swings and hand-twist retrieves
- Lakes and slow rivers
📌 Pro Tip: Retrieve it slow with pauses—the pheasant-rump collar opens and closes like a swimming nymph's legs, and the eat usually comes as the fibers flare on the stop.
