The Brown Nymph is a simple, all-purpose brown searching pattern: a dubbed brown body, soft hackle, and a buggy profile that imitates mayfly nymphs, caddis larvae, and small stoneflies alike. The plain workhorse nymph that's never quite wrong.
Brown is the color of most subsurface trout food, and a clean brown nymph dead-drifted on the bottom is one of the safest searching bets there is.
Best for:
- General searching and prospecting
- Freestone runs and riffles
- Dropper below a dry or heavy nymph
📌 Pro Tip: When you have no information, brown is the percentage color—dead-drift it on the bottom and let the most common food color do the work.
