The Bread Crust is a hundred-year-old caddis answer: a rusty-orange segmented body under a sweeping grizzly soft-hackle collar. Fished in or under the film, it covers emerging caddis pupae and drowned adults—the stages trout eat most and anglers imitate least.

The soft hackle is the engine: every current tongue folds and flares it, breathing life into the drift the way stiff-hackled flies never do.
