The Blue/White Deceiver is Lefty Kreh's masterpiece in open-water dress. Blue bucktail rides over a white belly with a long white saddle-feather tail, topped with peacock herl and laced with flash—the countershaded profile of virtually every pelagic baitfish that swims. The Deceiver design casts clean, never fouls, and swims with a full-bodied baitfish action that has fooled nearly every gamefish in salt water.
Blue-over-white is the scheme for open water and bright days: sand eels, anchovies, glass minnows, and juvenile herring all wear it. Stripers, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, and tarpon take this fly with equal conviction, and it performs from the surface down through the column depending on line choice.
Best for:
- Open-water baitfish feeds in salt or brackish water
- Stripers, blues, mackerel, snook, and tarpon
- Fishing any depth by changing line and retrieve
📌 Pro Tip: Match your retrieve to the bait—long smooth pulls for cruising fish, fast erratic strips when predators are blitzing. The Deceiver's profile does the rest; your job is just to make it behave like the school.
